Park in Gomel
Gomel – one of the oldest cities of Belarus. For the first time it was mentioned by the annals in 1142. More than 400 years the Great princedom Lithuanian and Rech Pospolitaya. In 1772 Gomel became the part of Russian state.
As all cities,Gomel has its own “visiting card”. It is the Palace – park ensemble. It’s pearl is the Rumyntsevs and Paskevichs palace.
In 1775 Gomel has been presented by Empress Yekaterina II to the Russian – Turkish war hero Field-Marshal Piotr Alexandrovich Rumyantsev-Zadunaisky. Rumyantsev began construction of a stone palace in Russian Classicism style. His son Nikolai Petrovich Rumyantsev, Russian chancellor, continued its building. For a short period of time Rumyantsev made his Gomele state one of the most comfortable in Russian. Gomel acquired the features of a European city; a system of main streets was made; St. Peter and Paul’s cathedral and many of public buildings were built. At the same time formation of the park was started. Today it enchantsGomelcitizens and guests of the city with its unique beauty and quietness.
